When following the Ketogenic diet, carbs are typically reduced to under 50 grams per day, though stricter and looser forms of the diet exist. Most Keto diets follow the following ratio of daily calorie intake:

75% health fat

20% protein

5% carbs

Here is a quick reference guide:

Foods to Choose

  • Eggs

  • Poultry

  • Fatty Fish

  • Meat (grass fed beef, venison, pork, bison)

  • Full fat dairy (cheese, yogurt, butter, cream)

  • Nuts and Seeds (also natural nut butters)

  • Avocados

  • Avocado oil, coconut oil, coconut butter

  • Non-starchy vegetables (greens, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers)

  • Low glycemic fruit, such as berries

Foods to Avoid

  • Bread, Baked Goods & Pasta

  • Sweets & Sugary Foods (including diet foods or candies made with artificial sweeteners)

  • Beverages sweetened with sugar, artificial sweeteners (soda, juice, sweet tea, sports drinks)

  • Processed meats

  • Grains and grain products (wheat, rice, oats, cereals, tortillas)

  • High Carb Sauces (most commercial mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, ketchup, salad dressings and dipping sauces have added sugars, unhealthy oils or additives)

  • Beans and Legumes

  • Margarine, shortening, vegetable oil, canola oil, corn oil

  • Starchy vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, corn, peas)

  • Fruit such as bananas, oranges, pineapple
